Kyra (KJ) Tudlong
Hi, I’m Kyra (or KJ)! I’m a yoga practitioner of 10 years and teacher with over 400 hours of training in the Hatha tradition, from a trauma and socially conscious lens.
I see yoga as a liberatory, lifelong practice—one that everyone should have access to.
I started The Peace Pursuit over a decade ago not knowing what it would be. I just wanted to share practices that made our lives and our world better. In many ways I was practicing yoga before I even knew all of what yoga encompassed. This previous blind spot informs my approach towards sharing yoga in ways that honour its origins and reduce the harm capitalism and colonialism has had on its true intentionality.
From then til now, I have navigated my share of suffering [keep scrolling for the tea]. Without a doubt, yoga is what brought me solace, healing, and peace through it all.
I’m here to meet you wherever you are on your wellness and spiritual journey. I’m passionate about sharing these ancient, transformational tools to bring more ease, understanding, and care into daily life and society.
When' I’m not sharing yoga, I support non-profits with their fundraising with Forward Avenue, I support other wellness instructors with Benchmark Group, and savour quality time with my life partner, family, and friends often involving yummy food, nature, or trash TV.
My teaching is inspired by Hatha and Vinyasa. I love weaving longer holds and fluid movement, while integrating opportunities to practice yoga philosophy, meditation , mudra and breathwork. Classes are created for all abilities and knowledge levels in mind.
WHY YOGA
WHY YOGA
In multiple ways during different phases of my life, yoga was always there for me.
It’s assisted me in all aspects of my existence: physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Oftentimes without me even realizing I was utilizing and benefiting from yoga.
Physically, I was challenged with sciatica and chronic back pain, which was followed by migraines with as many as one every month.
Emotionally and mentally I was challenged with burnout, a toxic relationship, lack of connection and identity being mixed race, and symptoms of anxiety and depression. That was followed by the experiences of caring for an ill parent and then, of course, grieving a parent.
All the while I held onto this lifelong spiritual pursuit for peace. For me, this looked like daily meditation, mindful eating or exercise, breathwork, advocacy, activism and allyship, journaling, art therapy, gratitude, nonviolence, self-compassion, and of course, asana.
In this way I was able to find healing and return to my body over and over and over again. The way I lived it: only when we can return to, listen and connect with our bodies, can we tend to our minds and finally, liberate the soul.
